Youth skills and workplace transition

Move from training activity to a managed pathway into work.

BEMC partners with corporates, employers, accredited providers and implementation organisations to build demand-led youth programmes that combine occupational learning, practical application, work readiness, workplace exposure and structured transition support.

The employability gap

Training must be designed around real work and employer demand.

A qualification or certificate is valuable, but it does not automatically create workplace confidence, exposure, references, professional habits or a route into an employer.

BEMC structures the complete pathway: demand assessment, accredited programme selection, learner mobilisation, practical delivery, work readiness, employer participation, workplace exposure, mentoring, performance reporting and transition support.

Programme stakeholders

  • Corporate sponsors and talent teams
  • Host employers and operational managers
  • Accredited skills development providers
  • Assessment centres and quality partners
  • SETAs, public institutions and funders
  • Community, youth and recruitment partners
Programme architecture

A connected pathway from demand to transition.

1

Employer demand and role analysis

Define the entry-level roles, work tasks, volume, locations, eligibility, workplace requirements and selection criteria.

2

Accredited pathway and partner design

Select the applicable occupational qualification, skills programme, learnership or vocational route and confirm provider, assessment and certification arrangements.

3

Learner mobilisation and readiness

Recruit, screen, orient and support learners while establishing attendance, conduct, safeguarding and programme expectations.

4

Knowledge, practical and work-readiness delivery

Combine formal learning with practical tasks, digital literacy, communication, workplace behaviour, job-search and interview capability.

5

Workplace exposure and mentoring

Place or rotate learners through suitable work environments with host induction, supervisors, learning objectives, evidence and support.

6

Assessment, certification and transition

Complete the applicable assessment route, build learner evidence, support job matching and report placement or progression outcomes.

Priority pathway families

Aligned to implementable demand in the South African labour market.

Final programme selection depends on employer demand, learner profile, workplace capacity, registered programme availability and the relevant accreditation scope.

Digital & ICT

ICT support, software and web development, data analytics, cybersecurity, networks and systems administration.

Electrical & green economy

Electrical installation, solar PV, energy-support and related practical pathways, subject to accredited programme availability.

Engineering trades

Welding, fabrication, fitting, turning, millwright, mechatronics and mechanical-maintenance pathways.

Heavy equipment & industrial

Diesel and heavy-equipment mechanics, maintenance support and selected mining or mineral-processing operations.

Supply chain & operations

Supply chain, logistics, warehouse operations, inventory and project administration.

Business services

Office administration, bookkeeping, payroll, customer service, contact centre, sales and business development.

For corporates

Build an entry-level talent pipeline while contributing to employability.

  • Define roles and skills around actual workforce needs
  • Sponsor a targeted cohort or participate as a host employer
  • Evaluate learners through structured practical exposure
  • Build succession and entry-level recruitment pipelines
  • Receive transparent programme and outcome reporting
  • Assess applicable skills-development and transformation benefits with your own advisers

Important programme conditions

BEMC does not guarantee employment. Placement and progression depend on learner eligibility and performance, host-employer capacity, programme completion, workplace fit, applicable legislation and written programme agreements.

Accreditation, funding, tax, B-BBEE and grant implications are programme-specific and must be verified before contracting.

Design a vocational-to-work pathway

This form is for corporates, host employers, public institutions, funders and implementation partners seeking a work-linked youth skills programme.
